Why I Need Feminism

Lawful Academical

I have been watching the evolution of the YesAllWomen tag discussion in the media and online over the past weeks, and have decided to add my own voice to the conversation. What I will address is my own experience with sexual harrassment and why I believe it to be a relatively unexceptional experience. When I say ‘unexceptional’ what I mean is that what happened to me has happened to so many people that, even though it stands out as a uniquely frightening event in my life, stories very much like mine happen every day.

In brief, my experience was this: while studying abroad, I met a guy at a party. He made it fairly obvious he was interested: “I’d like to see you again, can we go out sometime?” is pretty hard to misinterpret. We met for coffee once, and then met up again later that night at another party…

in transit

Because all women have walked to their car in the dark, keys clutched tight in hand, one poking out between two fingers.

Because when I go out to bars or clubs, I have to think about whether what I’m wearing is too suggestive, instead of putting on whatever I please.

Because I feel the need to apologize when I’m not wearing makeup or my hair hasn’t been washed, or when I’m generally looking anything other than flawless.

Because there was nothing I could do about the man who touched me inappropriately in the middle of Gillette Stadium as I waited for my then-boyfriend to come out of the bathroom. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STADIUM.

Because there was also nothing I could do when a man touched me inappropriately in the middle of a crowded street, his arm around his girlfriend. Because retaliating in the way I wanted to…

Silent Killer

As i was watching a preview of Vampire Diaries the heroine who is completely in love with 1 of the protagonists says that she loves that the guy is a man of mystery but with mystery comes secrets.

I realized her word were so true. Why do girls always fall for the silent brooding type guys?

Why are such guys so irresistible to women knowing that their maybe big bad secrets lurking behind?( Hell he may even turn out to be a secret killer)

Being a women myself i don’t find it surprising because its true. But i have never been able to find out why.

Women have a tendency to fix things.

They might just as well apply to guys too, dreaming that the guy might turn over a new leaf just for them.

But as history shows it is almost in vain.

Be it Mr.Darcy or Salvatore Brothers(vampire diaries) girls inevitably fall for them only  to get their heart broken.

I am no expert in this issue, it is just that this question plagues me every time i see women fawning over such guys.(sometimes i am one of them)

Phony Memories

So I am planning to buy a new phone. I keep surfing through the ads for the best phones at the cheapest prices.

Suddenly my gaze falls upon my oldest phone which i bought six years earlier.

My first phone with 2 MP camera and no GPRS facility(yeah there used to be phones like that)

It just hits me when i buy a new phone i just don’t throw away the old one ,i also through away my old memories too.

Midnight calls, unlimited text messages(especially the ones sent during class),chats with friends and strangers alike, awaiting the dreaded messages that announced test dates and results and my favorite the call which announced i got a job.

I haven’t thrown away the phone(even after getting a new one just after joining my new job) but it will never be used with the same fervor and excitement ever again.

It just sits in a corner reminding me of all the people that came and went  through my life and of those who are still part of it.

Hi This is my first post. I had tried for a long time to start blogging but was never inspired enough. Not until i heard a line

‘Pain beats regret everyday and twice on Sunday’

This got me thinking my post might not be good enough but nevertheless it is still my first post
